Happiness

Hello Internet-

Over the last couple years that I have had this blog, I have collected quotes among quotes that I have found online all for you guys. Now, after reviewing a lot of them...I'm going to share a bunch with you with each new post.

"Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect. It means that you've decided to look beyond the imperfections." -Unknown

We all want to be happy- this is a given, but sometimes situations are just what they are. If we constantly are nit-picking and trying to make something it is now...how are we ever supposed to be happy? I have two examples for you. One with my boyfriend and one with a friend.

Last year, my boyfriend and I went through a really rough semester we will say. We a. stopped talking to each other (the most important part of a relationship) and b. I kept trying to change who he was. Looking back on it, I don't even know what I was trying to change him into, but I was trying. Maybe because he was going through a lot and not telling me about it I was trying to make him into something I wanted. I don't know. Regardless. It was a constant battle- stop smoking, you should cut your hair, shave, etc. All commands, when what he was doing was REALLY none of my business...unless it affected me personally...which none of the examples did. Both of us did a lot of wrong in the 5 months of that rough patch, I was a bitch because he was a controlling asshole, and he was a controlling asshole cause I was a bitch. A huge cycle of nonsense. BUT, the most important thing I learned from it was that trying to change someone is only hurting yourself. Be happy with the situation that you have, and if you are trying to change it- then what the hell are you doing in that situation in the first place? We ended up splitting up for 3 months, and then got back together this October, and I COULD NOT be any happier. I think I took this quotes advice. We all have imperfections, and whatever I was 'trying' to change last year, I now look past and love all of him not just parts of him.

Perfection is something that society created and none of us will ever be able to fulfill.

I had a best friend for 15 years. She always chose other situations such as getting drunk, doing drugs, or hanging out with the "popular" crowd over me, and I never quite understood it. I tried so hard to hold onto the friendship and get her to understand that I was more important. In reality, the whole situation was fucked. We both couldn't look past the imperfections of ourselves and life...and ended up losing a really great friendship. Sometimes, especially when we are looking for happiness, we look at all the things we can change in our life...but why do we never look at the things that we have? Why is it so hard to see a situation and appreciate the little things that we DO have, instead of constantly fault-finding in the things that surround us.

My challenge to you: look beyond these imperfections that are around you, and just be content and happy with what you have.

Comment any thoughts/suggestions.

As always, much love!

Is the fight worth it?

Hello Internet-

I ask you maybe again, maybe for the first time, to look around. Look at the boy sitting all by himself with his head hidden in a book. Look at the pretty girls who you always see together and only with them, never with anyone else. Look at the multicultural people who work together and help each other, and pretty much only each other. Most importantly, look at yourself, and where you fit into society.

I told someone today, my generation pisses me off. The thing about my generation is we are so inconsiderate, disrespectful, and just rude. We rarely hold doors for other people, we spread out at a table so no one else can sit there, we use derogatory terms, and most importantly have lost that old fashioned respect we have for one another.

I understand that I am one of very few who think the way I do, and barely anyone in my generation has these irritations and dislikes for how they act. They don't even care to be honest. They don't even pay attention to how people talk to each other, act with each other, etc.

I have come a very far way from who I was. I am very optimistic, hence my name, and open to everything. It is very hard to be around pessimistic energies when I used to be so negative about everything, and now rarely see the bad side to things. I have this problem of having way too high of expectations. For friends, boyfriends, coworkers, really everyone. I don't think that people in my life should be perfect, because we all have flaws, but I don't see how it is so hard that when you care about or love something why you wouldn't want to respect them, be considerate, understand, and try to make them grow.

The way I see life: when it is pouring, the sun is still shining through, when it's thundering there is always sunshine at the end of the storm, and when it's shining you couldn't have more beauty surrounding us.

I understand people will see that when it's pouring it is pouring, that when it's thundering it is thundering, and when the sun shining it is just sunny out. I understand people are not as optimistic and loving as I am, but I don't see why people wouldn't want to live their life in peace and love as much as they can.

The only time I argue, is if someone argues with me (I get defensive), or if I am passionate about something. IF Internet, you are passionate about something, why would you not want to fight for it? Why do you think they have groups against the war, same sex marriages and relationships, race, religion, etc. Because our country is based off of freedom. Where we have the right of speech, and we can voice our opinions.

I was told the other night "It's funny cause when a guy sleeps with 10 girls that's like kinda cool, but when you hear that from a girl, when she's slept with 10 guys, it just like I don't know." I want to know why, for a guy it is their "right" to feel they have to be more masculine, why they HAVE to be the one teaching, why they are supposed to be respected more than the woman. Where in our fucked up society has all of this bull shit become acceptable? Our country has fought so hard for equal rights and still discrimination, sexism, etc. continue today.

So I ask you Internet- Was the fight worth it? Were all the wars, the arguments, the debates worth where we are today? What bothers you about our society today? Or am I just over exaggerating?

After reading this...look around again, look at the multicultural group of kids that are ALWAYS helping each other regardless of if they just met or are old friends, look at the girls who just don't get it and still think cliques are cool, look at the lonely boy who doesn't want to deal with the bull shit our society has handed us. And again, lastly look at yourself. Where do you fit in Internet? Where are you in society? Are you with me in thinking that people need to stop being so stupid and realize that peace and love is the only way to live a happy life. Or are you the type of person who just writes everyone off and is negative? Either way is not wrong...just think.

Taking it back

Hello Internet:

I came across a quote today:

If you judge people, you have no time to love them.
-Mother Teresa

I want to say that if I still judged people the way me and my friend used to, I would not be friends, nor would I be with the man I am with today. My boyfriend said in the beginning, I always thought those smiles were because you thought I was weird, or you felt sorry for me or something like that.

He thought I was judging, when in reality, I just wanted to talk to him and get to know him cause he seemed cool. Had I seen him 5-7 years ago, I would've never talked to him and never wanted to get to know him. But, I am glad things changed, because I could not be happier. :-)

I was watching America's Next Top Model tonight, and this pretty girl, tattoos, lip piercings (snake bites) and a bull ring I forget what that is called, and she got cut. Yet they said in the judging room she has great face blah blah blah. And she said at the end " I wanted to talk to Tyra for just 5 seconds and ask, 'what did you not like about me?'"

And this kinda coincides with another post I think I did a few weeks ago, but it is true. We see weirdness and don't want to be around it. I just wish our world was less judgmental and more full of love.

There are things in this world that are soo beautiful, but people see are so ugly.

So Internet: I challenge you, to not just find beauty in "beauty" but find beauty in "ugliness" and you will be surprised as to what you find.

What's the point...if you don't try...

Hello Internet:

Quick post today, I just want you all to think about something. Everything that has meant something in your life, were you given or did you have to work for?

For me, I have always worked for everything that means something to me. I love a challenge, and always have. Whether it be with education, boys, anything. And you know what I realized this last week, I have been stressing and freaking out over too much to do and too little time to do it in. Last night I worked for 12 hours straight, understanding, then not understanding, then figuring out these god damn problems that I have NO idea why I am doing them. I just need to know HOW to do them, haha. Ultimately, I kept dreaming I was still doing these problems and studying the material with my friends for this exam today.

Not that that whole tid-bit matters, but I'm saying, the grade I get on this test will feel so good, because for once in my life I spent so much time ACTUALLY working for this grade, because I do want to excel in this class.

Internet I challenge you to stop taking things so easily. If you want that A on the test WORK for it. If you want that boy's arm around you- go get him! Nothing is stopping us but ourselves.

So I ask you again, What's the point if you don't try?

Black and White

Hello Internet:

So, I started thinking today while I was waiting in the health center to only get told I have bronchitis symptoms, how much easier life would be if it was black and white. No grays, no hazy white, or dull blacks. Just this is what it is, and this is what I want, and I got it.

The thing is- There are always grays, there are always hazy whites, and there are always dull blacks. I found a drawing today my ex boyfriend/best friend had drawn for me. It was a sunset with a boat sailing into it. On the back, said this is to symbolize you and me moving forward. Our amazing bond will never break, because you and me have something too special. You will always be mine- I want you and no one else.

Something like that.

Funny thing is, is a few weeks after he had sent me that, our relationship deteriorated, and our friendship started falling apart. My heart ached for days and days, this painful throb in my chest never seemed to stop. It pounded with each footstep I took and each breath that entered my lungs. The one thing that kept me holding on for so many years had vanished from my life.

I look back on it, and the only thing that actually kept us together was this "love" we shared. This bond we had where we just knew we literally had no one else. It was only me he could come to, only me he would want to be with, only me he could run to. It was White. It all was angelic and what I thought was this perfect friendship, this perfect love. Once the hazy whites sunk in is when my heart started breaking.

It seems life is much simpler if it is all in black and white, much less painful. This girl started talking to me about this situation with this stupid ignorant boy. Here he let this amazing girl go, and then goes flaunting other girls he's all over in front of her. I'm not sure when this dull black became acceptable in society, but I will say one thing.

The haziest days are always the hardest to pull through, but when we have that white or black to hold our hands along the way it makes it a little easier.

Our hearts are going to ache and hurt regardless of if we want them to. I can tell myself day after day this ex best(boy) friend is out of my mind, out of my life, but with every day my mind goes back to him my heart aches for him.

There is always that hole in our lives, that hazy white, or that dull black that taunts us. That says life is not perfect. But, there is always that one thing that some how magically fills that hole and makes your life pure and white.

I thought my life would never be white again, but my consistent gratitude and my positive mind gave me this gift I now can call mine. This hole that has been filled. Sure, I still have those moments of grays, where life seems so complicated and so incomplete, but my point of this blog post Internet is to show you that although things may seem worse at the time. There is always a better tomorrow that you can create.

Communication

Hello Internet-

So I want to start this entry by stressing how important communication is between two people. Whether it be friends, family, companions, or especially roommates. If there is no communication, emotions build and things are said or done that weren't intentionally meant.

For example. My roommate a sweetheart, very peppy, and loves to have fun and go out all of a sudden stoppedtalking to me, or in general around me, gave me and my friends dirty looks and stopped beig considerate of me and my room as well. Today after me and a friend left the room I finally texted her and was like look I'm sorry if I did something wrong, but would like it if you talked to me about it. So after a few weeks of awkward looks and silence, she finally tells me she doesn't feel comfortable coming home to her room anymore. And the reason why made me laugh. Because I have close friend here who is of a different sexand I enjoy spending time with him that irritates her? But that's not even all of it. She took blew one of his comments way out of poportion and after that didn't want him in our room.

Granted she is busy with pledging and whatever she does- she is rarely in our room. But I do understand the fact that when she does come home, she doesn't wantto come home to people- she just wants to relax. Although, her one friend who is the same sex and is ALWAYS in our room is there when I want to relax and my roommate knows that I am not the fondest of her.

So, how is this fair? There are a lot of things other people may have that you don't, but honestly instead of getting hostile and angry do something about it. She had talked to me a while ago about how she wanted a good guy friend to just lie in bed with and talk with. I honestly think she feels comfortable when she's in our room- I think she just feels a little jealous I have something she doesn't. It's funny she has everything, perfect family, good girlfriends, a social life, etc but lately rolls have been switching and I am content with my life. Making girlfriends and getting a social life and an amazing guy to spend my down time with.

Here is the thing. We all want what we can't have, but instead of looking at what others have and feeling sorry for yourself- go and find it! Because it is outthere. If you really want something why wait for it to happen? Go and make it happen.

I want to share a quote that was emailed to me today....

"Whatever feelings you have within you are attracting your tomorrow.

Worry attracts more worry. Anxiety attracts more anxiety. Unhappiness attracts more unhappiness. Disatisfaction attracts more disatisfaction.
AND...
Joy attracts more joy. Happiness attracts more happiness. Peace attracts more peace. Gratitude attracts more gratitude. Kindness attracts more kindness. And love attracts more love.

Your job is an inside one. To change your world, all you have to do is change the way you feel."

Black History Month

Hello Internet:

I apologize for no post, but today I will do one now, and another later on. In honor of black history month, I am going to talk about race and our nationalities. My friend told me a story about how someone used the word Indian as a racial slur. But look at it the other way. Let's say ( to those of us that are white) we were a darker color. What would you do if someone called you "nigger" , "Indian", "chino" etc.

Where we came up with these racist acts/words is beyond me. We are all human and all the same regardless ofthe color of our skin. I guess what I am trying to say is don't judge. One of the greatest and most wise men I know is black. Some of the most genuine people I have met are black. These people know how it feels to be discriminated against, an because of that are the most open, sincere people in our society today. Don't get me wrong, a lot of my white friends are sincere and honest as well, but there is something special about ethnic people.

They seem to laugh more, enjoy life, and just live better. They have fully understood what sister/brotherhood is about and are there for eachother. They use their race as an advantage to build better friendships, where as the whites are lost. Their big heads run with the idea that they are the "best" at everything.

So I challenge you Internet: in the month of black history month- reach out to different races and learn from them.

Everything Happens For a Reason...?

Hello Internet:

As I was walking to where ever I was getting to this morning with my Ipod which is always on shuffle...a song came on that got me thinking...what if we are all meant for one person.
Silly, I know, but honestly the song "Won't Stop" by onerepublic, made me really really consider.

In my whole lifetime I have never felt like I was in love. Never once have I gotten that urge to consider being with that one guy for an extended period of time. For me I feel love should be "easy", but as we all know, one of my favorite sayings being is, "If it's easy, it ain't worth it." I once told a guy that I have never had a long relationship because it never seems to just fit...like two puzzle pieces, and what did he say in return?

Boy: "It may be easy in the beginning but love is something you have to work for. Something both people want unconditionally and will do anything to keep it going."

I had never heard something like that, of course "love" isn't as easy as me and my mom, and family's love. I LOVE MY FAMILY no matter what. Even in my biggest fits of rage, I have never said I hated someone and actually meant it...normally I mean I love them.

But anyway, back on par. The lyrics specifically say,
"'Cause I swear it's you, I swear it's you
I swear it's you that I've waited for.
And I swear it's you, I swear it's you
I swear it's you that my heart beats for;
And it ain't gonna stop, no it just won't stop."

Lately I have been spending a lot of time with a certain some one and honestly, I feel something differently...no not love, but it is "easy", "fun", and most importantly it makes me happy. No arguments, no drama, no question, it just "is what it is" (This is something you will probably hear me say a lot :-] )

What if we were just made for that one person, what if our other relationships or what have you are our paths on a map that are leading us straight to that one person. Sure people get married divorced ladeeda...but ultimately, we do end up happy right?

Ultimately, our heart continues beating for that one person, that's why we keep living and pressing forward, because we haven't found that one yet.

The way I see life is everything happens for a reason, every heart ache, success, failure, gain, loss, etc. is only leading you closer to your final destination. Of course we make choices that will effect the path we take, but just like when we get lost in a car, we may take different roads but we always get to the final destination.

I guess the next thing to ponder is, why worry where you are going to end up?

Why stress over this or that when stressing does nothing but erode at the insides of our beautiful souls. Live life to the fullest, accept every road block that comes your way; there will always be a detour!

Something to ponder: Why do people always freak out when they aren't in control? Why don't we just sit back and enjoy the beautiful ride of life...

Dreams

Hello Internet:

Last night was odd; couldn't sleep very well. I had a weird dream about death and the portrayal of it as a human being, kind of like that movie "Meet Joe Black" I believe it is called.

But during whatever I was doing this morning, I started thinking...maybe we as people need to become more closer to the idea of "death", like I stated in my last post by James Allen, "...these so called evils may be converted into blessings."

And then, all these thoughts have been splurging into my head, maybe for once I am actually happy and content with my life and the positivity that I have surrounded myself with, that my dream, and me not wanting to be around "death", is telling me to just keep on loving, regardless of what is to come.

Things are always temporary, nothing lasts forever. A book will wear and tear, a cell phone will get old and or break, a baby blanky will get holes in it and age, and a person ages as well; eventually everything comes to an end. My point of this post is:

Take a look around, and be thankful for what you have. Love unconditionally, and always be open to new ideas. On my walk this morning I saw this guy just staring this other kinda "dorky" dressed boy up and down with a weird look on his face. I can guarantee that "dorky" boy is probably one of the sweetest most genuine people you will ever meet, but because he dresses a little differently he is weird.

Open your minds to the things that you are so closed off to...you may be surprised what you will find :-).
