Hello Internet-
I came across another quote today that made me think:
"Many people say I've changed, but the truth is I've just found myself."-Anonymous.
Recently, I was talking to one of my old good friends. He basically walked out of my life like my father has, and when he finally came back expected me to be all happy I guess. He seemed to remember the past 6 months or so very differently than I do. He told me something had happened and he needed time to figure things out. And all I wanted to do was be a friend to him and be there for him, so I'd text him almost every day, call him at least once every other week, and send him facebook messages- and in return would receive absolutely nothing. He claims all of these attempts to get in touch with him never even happened. HA! Then he continued to tell me why he didn't understand why I was upset. Maybe cause my best friend disappeared and ignored me like my father has done to me for the last 15 years. Actually! come to think of it- he makes my dad look AWESOME...cause at least my dad answers my emails a couple days later. Anyway- conversation went on about us trying to tell the other how the last 6 months went, and I realized...he was totally different, and not in a way that I liked. But I also realized, I had no say in who he was because we hadn't talked in half a year. Who knows if he had some life changing experience...a lot happens in 6 months.
Then I found this quote. Did he really even change? Maybe he just found the douche bag inside himself that he really is. So what happens to us? Do you think that we actually change- or maybe we just grow into who we were meant to be. I can't decide. Maybe it's both? I don't know. Comment your thoughts....I'm interested to see how others see take this quote/their ideas on it.
As always- much love,
-Miss Optimistic

The Last Post....for a while :-)
Hello Internet-
So, while I say my farewells and bags are packed- it has sunk in. I leave tomorrow morning for Ecuador. Scared shitless but yet SO excited! With that- tonight will be my last post/lesson until about July 10th.
What to say- opinions. We all have them all, but how do we use them? Normally when we have opinions we tend to get passionate about them. We tend to get an attitude because we want people to see things from how we see them. We have been taught that wrong is bad, so our opinions should be right.
"When Things Fall Apart" by Pema Chodron says, "cultivating nonaggression is cultivating peace." Why do we get so defensive when someone attacks our ideals, morals, or opinions? I mean we all think differently therefore we all have different opinions, so what is wrong with that? Like Pema says, "we have a lot of opinions, and we tend to take them as truth. But actually they aren't truth. They are just our opinions. We have a lot of emotional backup for these opinions. They are often judgmental or critical; they're sometimes about how nice or perfect something is."
But let's keep in mind...
"Opinions are opinions, nothing more or less. We can begin to notice them, and we can begin to label them as opinions, just as we label thoughts as thoughts. Just by this simple exercise we are introduced to the notion of egolessness. All ego really is, is our opinions, which we take to be solid, real, and the absolute truth about how things are."
So, I ask you Internet- what is so important about these opinions that we hold on to them so dearly? Why can't we all just be open to other people's ideas, and possibly adapt ours to theirs.
There is a lot in this world that we are unaware of- and if we hear other opinions- another door may be opened that we never saw before. Facts is something we learn in school- but what we need to realize, is these opinions or thoughts are what we learn from experience. From taking those facts and applying them to life- that is how we form our opinions.
AND- Since I have said in previous posts, everyone experiences things differently, everyone will hold different ideas, but what is wrong with that? Think about it: the more opinions we are exposed to the more we grow as a human being- there is NOTHING wrong with that.
On that note- think about this quote- "I want to taste and glory in each day, and never be afraid to experience pain; and never shut myself up in a numb core of non-feeling, or stop questioning and criticizing life and take the easy way out. To learn and to think; to think and live; to live and learn: this always, with new insight, new understanding, and new love." From The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath.
The point of that quote is open your mind. Do not be so closed off to others opinions, because you will open up new insights, new understandings, and new love. And if you don't believe me Internet- once I opened up my mind and started listening to other people's thoughts, I ended up with an amazing man, I found new understandings, new insights, and like I just said new love.
So- if those are the things you are looking for, than what are you waiting for?

P.S.- I hope everyone has a great month! I will be back before you know it :-)

Shadows.
Hello Internet:
So as I am basking in this glorious sunny RARE day... I started thinking about how beautiful days are with a little bit of sun. Then- ran across this quote-
"False friends are like our shadow. Keeping close to us while we walk in the sunshine, but leaving us the instant we cross into the shade." - Christian Nestell Bovee
And after reading, couldn't help but realize how true that quote is. We all have friends, but I can guarantee a lot of them are as Bovee says "false". We need to surround ourselves with positivity- because then life will wreak of happiness and positivity- what we all need.
Let go of the bad influences in your life...they will only drag you down and ruin you even more. For example:
I worked as a waitress at this restaurant. My sister used to work there and warned me: there are a lot of drugs at that place. I had quit smoking weed about a year before I started working there. I had this best friend, who was the worst influence on me ever. First being around her high all the time and her smoking around me didn't seem like a big deal, started smoking again. The friends I was hanging out with were "false" friends. Even me and her joked about it when I had to go back to get a little extra cash that we were just each others drug buddies if you will haha. (I am sorry to my family, when you read this.) Then, seeing pills being popped left and right and snorted left and right up in the bathrooms that didn't seem too bad either. By the end of the 8 months or so I had worked there...I had realized how awful this place was for me. I grew far from my mom and my family. Lost a lot of friends, and had people borrowing money from me to use on drugs and I never got it back. I was the restaurants little toy. I lost my "best false friend" I didn't want anything to do with these numbing drugs anymore. I wanted my old friends back and wanted my mom back most importantly. My dog, was the only thing that seemed real in my life. I walked around numb to everything, because I literally was. It was funny because I thought I was so strong and beyond all of that, but with the "false friends" around, was so blinded and didn't realize I was falling far into a hole I would never want to be in. I stopped loving myself yet again, and just turned to anything to fill this empty spot in my heart.
The best thing that happened to me was a hispanic man I worked with. My best friend. I was his "bebita" and he would've done anything for me. Unfortunately he went to jail for being drunk after a huge fight we got into, and is now back in Mexico. But he was a real friend. A shadow that followed me into the shade. He hated seeing me do what I was doing and when he went to jail I left the restaurant. That was my realization that the whole 6 months I had just lived through were a joke.
Do not let these people who pretend to care about you drag you down. We are all beautiful and all human, and we deserve the best. I will say that if I had not gone through the last year of my life, I would still not be as strong as I am now. I don't need drugs, nor do I even want them, a waste of my time and money. I spent enough numb moments to know how much better living sober is.
If you look to your friends and they are all false...reach to me. Comment,e-mail me.
